Customized Training Plans

  • Reaching your fitness or athletic goals may require more than working hard in the gym 2-3 times a week (though that will certainly help!). If you’re committed to making your dreams a reality and want to train on your own time, need to engage in sport-specific exercise modalities to reach your goal, or simply prefer the outdoors to the gym, Iain will write you a customized training plan tailored to your specific goals.

  • With years of experience training for successful big mountain objectives and working with his own coach, Iain knows the value of a systematic and progressive approach to structured training, and how to set you up for success.

  • Is Personal Training right for me?
Do you have a fitness or athletic goal that you’d like to achieve, but you’re not sure about the best way to get there? Maybe you’ve been plateauing or stagnating in your results, and you aren’t sure why. Or perhaps you just need that extra accountability and support from a coach in order to follow through on your exercise routine. Whether you’re planning an expedition to climb and ski a big mountain, looking to maintain muscle mass and strength as you age, or hoping to shed 20 pounds and feel good about your body, personal training is the best way to get there. By working with a personal trainer, you’ll receive customized guidance and workout programming that’s structured specifically to help you reach your goal over a certain timeframe. You’ll also have access to a fitness professional who can answer all of your questions, correct your exercise form, keep you consistent with your exercise, help you overcome a busy schedule and other life obstacles, and maximize your time spent working out. By committing to working with a trained professional, you’ll be taking a concrete and worthwhile step towards converting your fitness hopes & dreams into reality.
  • Who will I be training with?
Iain is a Certified Personal Trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine and Certified Functional Strength Coach offering fitness coaching at our Jackson location through one-on-one personalized sessions. By working one-on-one, Iain ensures that your sessions will be specifically tailored to your needs and abilities, as opposed to the random or generalized workouts of a group class or online program. Iain specializes in mountain endurance athletes and clients who are rehabbing injuries, but also loves working with weight loss clients, strength focused clients, and general health & fitness clients. Iain has spent the past five years training year-round as a mountain athlete, pursuing objectives both at home in the Tetons and abroad. He has skied from the top of the Grand Teton (twice), Mount Rainier, and Denali, and summitted 6,000+ meter peaks in the Himalaya. He loves skiing, hiking, running, and climbing, and knows what it takes to accomplish long-term goals, as well as the aches and pains of constant physical activity.
  • What is Chiropractic?
The word chiropractic means “Done by hand.” We do hands-on non-invasive treatment for musculoskeletal issues and nerve entrapment. As sports chiropractors, our treatment goes far beyond the simple chiropractic adjustment, working into the muscles, fascia, ligaments and tendons that are affected. Our goal is to find out why it hurts, not just to treat what hurts.
  • What does our typical chiropractic visit look like?
The first visit starts with an exam including orthopedic tests as indicated and an analysis of how your joints move as well any imbalances in your muscles that could be contributing to your issue. From there we address the soft tissue injuries and imbalances. We may use Active Release Techniques, Graston, cupping, stretching, and other therapies. Next as chiropractors, we typically adjust. Adjusting is simply putting movement into a joint; it may or may not produce a cavitation, that “pop” often associated with chiropractic visits. If you’re not ready for an adjustment, let us know; we are happy to take care of you with all the other therapies. We love to explain what is happening that is leading to your issues and teach stretches and simple exercises that will help you to continue to heal and avoid recurrence of the injury.
  • What should I expect on my first visit?
Your first visit will take around 45 minutes and comprises a detailed history; an exam including functional movement screening and orthopedic, neurological and muscle tests as indicated; treatment including myofascial release, chiropractic adjustments, and rehab prescription. Additional therapies (Electric Stim, Graston, RockTape, cupping) may used as needed.
  • What should I wear?
Please dress in clothes that allow you to move. Athletic shorts or legging allow us to work much better than jeans!
  • How and when do I pay?
Payment is due at the time of service. We accept cash, local checks and credit/debit cards. JH Backcountry Health does not bill insurance. We are happy to provide you with a superbill/detailed receipt that you can submit to your insurance or HSA.
  • Will I need to come back?
This depends on the condition and what you are looking for. We like to get you feeling better and out doing what you love as quick as possible. Some issues resolve in one visit; some take a few. We love to teach you what you can do to take charge of your health and not have to visit us too often.
  • What do we treat?
Back pain Neck pain Headaches Jaw pain and TMJ issues Nerve pain and nerve entrapment Sciatica Shoulder and rotator cuff issues Tendinitis Hand and arm pain Numbness and tingling Hip pain Knee pain Feet and ankles Plantar Fasciitis Tennis Elbow and a bit more
  • Why choose JH Backcountry Health?
We spend more time with our patients to understand the root cause of your issue and to treat it accordingly. Our mission is to help you make your goals happen. We keep up on evidenced-based treatments and love working on tricky issues.
