Dry Needling Treatment

Try out a Dry Needling Treatment

Maybe the gingerbread models above piqued your interest in Dry Needling, maybe they just made you hungry. If your hunger hasn’t driven you to the cupboard, read on.

So tell me, what is Dry Needling? Dry needling uses a thin filiform needed inserted through the skin into underlying soft tissue. While the needles and many of the techniques come from acupuncture, it does not encompass all that acupuncture is. Acupuncturists spend years in school studying Traditional Chinese Medicine, and many of their needling points are based on meridians and the flow of chi energy in the body. Dry needling is based on anatomy in terms of needle location and physiology in terms of the body‘s response to the needles. Dry needling is a specific effective medical treatment to restore function and mobility in a variety of musculoskeletal issues, reduce scar tissue, and decrease pain.

What does it help? Some of the specific issues and treatments I focus on in Dry Needling treatments:

  • Hip and glute pain

  • Plantar fasciitis

  • TMJ disorders

  • Low back pain

  • Tennis elbow and golfers elbow (lateral and medial epicondylitis)

  • Knee osteoarthritis (this one is specifically a pain management, it does not decrease the arthritis)

  • Trigger finger

  • Carpal tunnel

  • and more

If you are interested in incorporating dry needling in your treatment plan, please talk to your provider at JH Backcountry Health to see if you are a candidate. Dry needling has a few contraindications and precautions to talk through prior to treatment. If you are a candidate, look forward to exciting new treatment options, especially when intramuscular electric stimulation is added in with the dry needling. Dry Needling treatments are provided by Dr. Laura (will either be booked as a separate 30 minute appointment or can be a part of the 40 minute treatment visits if arranged beforehand).
